MSI Optix MAG272QR Review
Are you in search of a monitor? Whether it’s for gaming or business purposes, it is very much important that your monitor specs should meet your desired capacity. Hang on, for we will provide you with the best alternative that you can have.
Several monitor shoppers nowadays have a fascinating choice in MSI’s Optix MAG272QR. Basically, this unit is 27 inches with built-in gaming, although, in this display, good color reproduction is needed. The panel for this monitor is VA type. In addition to that, the resolution of this display is 2560 by 14440 pixels. Moreover, it is capable of refreshing more than 165 Hz, yet if you use Freesync, the refresh rate can be from 48 to 165 Hz, this is already considered as a good wide range.
In terms of color reproduction, this display quotes 95.6% for DCI-P3 coverage in color space and 1273.7% for its coverage on sRGB, which is considered a good gaming monitor. It has 300 nits for the unit brightness, and the static contrast is 3000:1 ratio. However, it cannot support any type of HDR.
The HDMI pair of 2.0 connectors are handling its’ connectivity. The first one is Port 1.2a display while the other is Type- C port, USB. Take note as well that the monitor that connects to its HDMI ports is limited to a 144 Hz refresh rate. Stand for the monitor can support height adjustments, swiveling, portrait mode pivoting, and tilting. MSI’s Light designed for RGB support topped off the rear, thus, said to be a good touch.
- Gives details which are eye-catching through shadows adjustments and contrast
- Real smooth for gaming due to its refresh rate which is 165 Hz
- Color display is 1.07B (8bits+ FRC)
- Response time is 1ms, removes screen tearing as well as breaking frame rates
- Provides ultimate game viewing
- Esports gaming display designed for a professional tournament for eSports
- Ultimate game viewing
- HDR Ready- offers eye-catching detail with shadows and contrast adjustment
Though there are several options for 1440p 144Hz monitors for gaming, the best option that you can have is MSI MAG272QR. However, this type of model is very rare when it comes to flat-screen monitors VA panel, which makes this the best choice is you prefer high contrast and if you don’t like to see curve lines om your screens.
Image Quality
Vertical Alignment (VA) panel technology is admired for the high ratio for its static. This display has 3,000:1 for its ratio, which is higher almost 3 times compared to TN panel and IPS panel displays. Thus, you can have significantly brighter whites and deeper blacks that makes a more pronounced brightest and darkest tones.
In addition, this VA monitor doesn’t suffer from the IPS glow that makes it perfect for watching movies or for gaming, even though your room is quite dark. The shadow details are really amazing.
It has 178 degrees vertically and horizontally viewing angles, yet not as wide compared to IPS panels, this is a better choice than TN panels with 170 or 160 degrees. It offers minor shifts when it comes to contrast only if you are off-axis on the screen.
The only downside of this monitor is the absence of sRGB mode for emulation that has a restriction of 100% sRGB color output for an accurate sRGB content representation. For reducing color saturation, the only option you have is Designer mode. However, it does apply blue or cold tint on the picture.
Price
This MSI MAG272QR usually goes around £284.38, which can be seen as a bit steep. If you are looking for an alternative that is cost-effective yet almost the same quality, the best option is AOC CQ27GI. Though the screen has curved, this could be noticed if you will go with 27 inches size.
Pros
- Pixel density and contrast ratio are high
- Wide color gamut
- Lots of features (MBR and Freesync)
- The stand is ergonomic, and connectivity options are rich
Cons
- No sRGB mode
- On the expensive side!
MSI Optix MAG272QR Review – Final Verdict

Pros:The item definitely feels sturdy. In fact the grip on the bottom can move the desk. The item was easy to assemble and hook up. Monitor swivels, tilts, moves up and down whilst remaining in place.Picture quality is great although I would say the transition from an ips monitor to this is visible and I would definitely say the ips is better by a small small fraction. However, the MSI MAG272QR is by far near perfection for the price. Colours were great out of the box. Displayport cable provided – I learned I do not have a display port on my graphics card 🙁 However, the monitor is all in all amazing. Once you hook up the usb upstream to the monitor you can plug your mouse and keyboard into your monitor.Cons:Although barely any to write. If I could squeeze some cons it would be that the unboxing is not as easy and is definitely an issue in comparison to other unboxings such as the lg 25um58-p.Secondly, yes, it is true, the RGB lights are only visible in the dark (enough to light up the wall behind).Thirdly, the process of installing the gaming osd and app was not well emphasised. As you can see these cons really don’t target the monitor itself since the monitor is great.

I have been looking to get a gaming monitor for near enough 6 months. When details of this monitor started floating about I knew i would probably end up getting one! It ticked all the boxes (144hz+, 1440p, 27inch) with USB C and a good amount of adjustment on the stand a bonus. The actual picture quality and colours appear to be very good with plenty of adjustment options. The RGB lights on the back are a pit pointless, but heck you shouldn’t be buying this monitor because of them!Overall amazing value for the specs. Would recommend for anyone wanting to spend less than £400
