While this camera sits very much at the bottom grown of the Canon lineup that doesn’t suggest that it isn’t worth every penny, especially if you aren’t necessarily looking to be a professional photographer anytime soon but instead just want to take better looking pictures than you’d ever be able to with your phone.

Photography experts that demand all kinds of bells and whistles might call the Canon EOS 4000D bare-bones and no-frills, but the odds are good that if the last camera you used was on the back of your phone you’ll find there’s plenty of settings to tinker and toy with without feeling overwhelmed.
Features
The overall design language of the Canon EOS 4000D definitely feels a little bit dated, with the same kind of style that you would have seen featured by Canon EOS cameras all the way back in 2010.
At the same time, when something isn’t broke you don’t necessarily need to fix it.
The 18 megapixel sensor inside of this camera still letting plenty of light and is mated to a nine point autofocus system that makes point and shoot photography really simple and straightforward. The autofocus may be a little bit sluggish compared to some of the lightning fast options rolling off of assembly lines in early 2020 today, but it’s still going to be miles and miles ahead of the autofocus your camera phone features.
A 3 inch 230 K display on the back of the Canon EOS 4000D doubles as your viewfinder if you don’t want to through the peep window. It isn’t a touchscreen like you might find on other DSLR cameras but it really shines in bright light and outdoor conditions.
All in all, pretty much every Canon EOS 4000D review out there mentions how strong the build quality of this camera is from top to bottom. It feels good in the hand, isn’t going to fall apart anytime soon, and is backed by the legendary Canon warranty.
Image Quality
As far as image quality is concerned, you’ll be pretty impressed by the kinds of pictures and video media you can shoot with the Canon EOS 4000D right out of the gate.
Canon has some very impressive like balancing and color balancing technology baked right in to this particular model, and the exposure settings on your camera are going to be ready to rock and roll right out of the box.
You’ll be able to snap gorgeous photos even with a lot of high contrast in your viewfinder without any trouble at all. Best of all, you can crank the sensitivity of the Canon EOS 4000D all the way ISO 6400 (maximum setting) without a lot of noise drowning out your images.
Video capture with this system is pretty impressive, too. You’re looking at full high definition (1920 x 1080) with capture capabilities good for up to 25 frames per second. The lack of an external microphone input is a little bit of a glaring issue for those that want to capture great sound while shooting video, but the internal microphone does a halfway decent job when you are recording indoors without a lot of ambient noise going on.

I have to admit I am barely even an amateur when it comes to cameras> for years my phone camera has sufficed.But I have always wanted something a little more professional so when I got the opportunity to get this camera I jumped at it.I have read in other reviews this is a good starting point so not the camera to get if already a professional but perhaps a good starting point if interested in getting into photography. That does seem like quite the commitment considering the price of this camera but it really does seem like a good bit of kit.When you hear Canon and cameras you know you are in good hands.This came with the camera itself and the lens.There are caps for the camera and both ends of the lens which keep them well protected. Also a charger for the battery comes with this. The battery is very easy to remove, place in the charger then returned to the camera once charged and the charger has lights on it to show when charging and when fully charged.It does not come with a memory card so you will have to invest in one of those. You can get a 16gb memory card for about £10.So using the camera. First of all it feels light in the hands and I have two associates who are very much into their cameras who have looked at it and stated this. This is because most of the camera is made of plastic rather than metal.It has a number of buttons and dials upon it and the choice of using the old fashioned view or a view screen.The options themselves allow you to try different modes depending on what you are photographing. Whether you wish to take a picture of a landscape or a person or object and depending on the conditions you are using it in. This is handy and I have not fully explored all these options but what options I have I have found to be very useful depending on the circumstances.In the main mode when you hold down the button to take the picture it automatically focuses for you and takes a clear picture. This is very handy for me as I have quite shaky hands but I have not taken a blurry picture on it yet using this option.Another option is to take rapid pictures. This seems mainly for taking pictures of people or objects moving to you get the progress of their movement or I guess an option quite good for the likes of the paparazzi taking multiple quick pictures to then go back and look and find the right one.It also has a filming option as well so if you want to take home videos this is great for doing so.The lens itself is very good. There is also a hole below for screwing in a camera mount if you wish.Something I found very useful is you can download an APP to your pad or phone and view and transfer photo’s through this. There are ports for two different cable types for connecting to you computer but this option is easier to use I find. The camera itself broadcasts as Wi-Fi and you connect your device to this.It means you can view the pictures quickly and delete any you do not want or transfer over ones you do want and the app allows for some editing.Overall for a beginner like me this is the perfect camera/ It is easy to figure out and use. This is Canon’s new ‘entry level,’ camera, which is ideal for a beginner. So many people rely on smartphones now, but this is a camera designed to get people away from using these and back to cameras. This cuts costs by using a plastic, rather than metal, lens mount. On the plus side, this is fairly easy to use, with well laid out controls and good battery life. It is also well priced, compared to many cameras on the market and so is obviously marketed at those who want to try using a camera again, rather than those cellphones. However, one of the things that Canon have not included is, oddly, a touchscreen – which, obviously, anyone who uses their phone for taking pictures/videos will be used to. This seems an odd omission, but is, perhaps, another way of cutting costs.The camera does have Wi-Fi connectivity, plus a Quick Menu, which allows you to easily access commonly used settings. For beginners, or those getting back into photography, this is obviously a plus. For those who are very keen on photography and more likely to experiment with changing lenses often, they will not like the plastic feel of the camera and lens mount, which is obviously more liable to wear than metal. That said, this is aimed at the lower end of the market. So, although it a little slow to focus and not ideal for anyone wanting to use the longer, heavier lenses, it does do everything that a learner would need.The menu setting, with the Quick Menu, the control and ease of accessing what you need, make up for the fixed LCD screen, smaller optical viewfinder and the plastic feel of the camera. It is light to carry and that is something that I personally like. After all, not everyone wants something too complicated and this is affordable and a good introduction/re-introduction to photography – allowing video recording and continuous pictures. The quality may not excite photography enthusiasts, but it is certainly better than using a smartphone and it is great to have the feel of the camera and the greater control it gives you. You receive everything you need here – camera body, strap, lens, etc – to get you started taking photographs again.

This is a stunning camera. But you do have to download the full manual from Canon. This is possibly the best manual ever supplied and it’s free! When I opened the box I got a bit of a shock. The instruction booklet is tiny and hopelessly inadequate. I thought I’d made a big mistake buying it. It didn’t tell me anything I needed to know. But once I got the online manual which you can download to your computer and read at your heart’s content, I was amazed. This is a step by step set of instructions for people that know nothing at all about cameras – and for those who are advanced photographers as well. The camera can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be. Just turn the knob to its first setting and it will do all the work for you. All you have to do is press the button to take the picture. But if you want complications [which you need never use!] they’re all there as well for the advanced photographer [and the manual explains everything in great detail such that even an old fogey like me could understand. But as I say, all you have to do is choose the first setting and the camera autofocuses and does the shutter speed and everything for you. As I say I’m an older guy and I remember the old film cameras, and the big thing was to have a zoom lens from 28 to 80, and the lens supplied with this camera is the equivalent to that lens [18 to 55], So, you have great flexibility from portraits to landscapes and everything in between. This is a stunning camera, but you will have to download that amazing manual, or like me, you might think you made a mistake buying it. You didn’t!
